Let them know that you are coming and be on time. Do not show up without advising them in advance. Make sure that you will arrive on the date and time that you stated.
Stay organized. Your things should be organized and if you are going to use anything in the house, make sure that you put them back accordingly. The room you are using should be kept clean, as well as the bathroom.
Ask permissions and advise them. You may feel at home; however, know your limitations. You should ask for consent if you will need to use your host’s television, laptop or phone. Advise them if you are going out or will come home late, especially at night. You should also let them know if you are planning to go somewhere and whether you prefer going alone or you need a companion; however, do not expect that your host will take work off for you.
Spend time with your host. See to it that you also allot a time to bond with your host and your host family. Take time to also relax and enjoy with them; however, you should be the one to adjust to their schedule.
Show gratitude. This can be done by simply saying “thank you” and being appreciative which can be shown in your gesture and expression. You may want to offer your host a treat for a lunch or dinner. You may also bring or buy something, a simple gift may be, which you can leave to them to show your appreciation.
